Program
The Pacific Journey Wilderness At-Sea Program is very
unique in the sense that we offer an alternative to the
remote Wilderness Programs and Boot Camps for teenage
boys and girls. Living onboard a ship is quite unique
to begin with but combine this with an experiential learning
program, 24/7 structure and the appropriate therapy, and
you truly have something that works for the students in
the program. We operate off the coast of Southern California
and spend most of our time cruising around Catalina Island
just 26 miles offshore from Long Beach and L.A. Harbors.
Our routes include the coastal waters from San Diego to
the Channel Islands just offshore from Santa Barbara.
Program
Design
The live aboard program is designed to give the students
some positive space in an amazing environment. The students
will learn how to work as a crew while living onboard
the ship with a group of other teens that are in the
same situation they are. They will also have the opportunity
to learn about Marine Science, work with horses on Catalina
Island, hike, explore, swim, snorkel and kayak. The
ship, crew and staff provide them with an incredible
adventure that will truly make a difference in their
lives during their time with us at-sea. You will be
amazed at how many of the things they learn on the ship,
do make their way back home with them.
What we offer the students:
• A safe and pleasant environment
• Group Sessions to prepare for returning home
• A group of their peers with similar circumstances
• Numerous ocean activities that are fun as well
as educational
• Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) on Catalina Island
• Great food and accommodations
• The opportunity to learn about Marine Science
and living aboard a ship
• A crew and staff that truly cares about them
and is there to help any way they can and make sure
they have a great adventure off the coast of Southern
California
The students leave the program with a new sense of
purpose and specific goals in mind for their return
home. The self-disciplinary techniques we teach during
the program will help each teen achieve their goals.
We also teach the students how to set a series of goals
that are easily attained. Having the ability to reach
these smaller, daily goals gives the teens a feeling
of confidence that will ultimately help them attain
the larger goals in life.
The teens onboard will interact with professional Firefighters,
Ocean Lifeguards, Law Enforcement, Marine Science Educators
and Counselors on a daily basis. All of our Crew and
Staff truly care about helping, teaching and mentoring
the students. We all understand what a difficult road
becoming a responsible adult can be. In many cases,
all it takes is a positive environment like a ship out
on the ocean with a crew and staff that care enough
to dedicate their lives and skills helping a group of
teenagers make good decisions.

A typical day for our students involves complete structure
from the moment they wake up until ''lights out'' at
the end of the day. All of the activities, classes and
sessions require discipline, focus and attention to
detail. Our staff and crew have logged many years at-sea
and know what it takes to provide a safe and positive
experience for every single student on board.
