North Rim Leadership Academy

Early Intervention and Assessment Program

North Rim Leadership Academy is a powerful short-term (3-day) early-intervention program for troubled teens; teens that are unmotivated and need a wake up call to reality. We are not a wilderness camp, boot camp, military school, rehab, or school for troubled teens.  We are a leadership academy with the purpose of jump-starting the once promising teen back on to a course of success and prosperity.  Our purpose is to get to the bottom of your child’s main issue, and to assess and evaluate the best course of action for the future of your child. As an early-intervention and assessment program our goal is to help you find out what is going on in the heart and mind of your child

The truth is that until you really know what is going on with your child you will most likely make a major mistake and not get them the help they need. This will cost you a great deal of money and years of heartache. The number one mistake parents make in your situation is that they make hasty decisions and place their child into the wrong program. For example, if your child is not mentally ill, and is only “emotionally immature” (entitled), then your child will not succeed in a residential treatment center. Unfortunately, most programs are based on providing a therapeutic intervention reserved for the “mentally impaired” troubled teen. In this case, your “normal” child would be dumped into a program with kids with severe mental issues.  Many parents make this mistake and regret it later.

At North Rim Leadership Academy we employ professional Educational Consultants to evaluate and assess each student’s situation, and provide the parent with “the truth” behind the child’s defiance/rebellion.  There are always root causes, but they are not always obvious to the parent.  Most of the time the root cause is hidden drug use, parents have no idea that their once perfect child is experimenting with drugs and alcohol.  Another root cause is sex activity.  Many kids are sneaking behind their parents back and are involved in serious physical relationships.  Unfortunately, most teenagers are not emotionally mature enough to handle the intense issues related to physical intimacy.  You see a kid out of control, and right under the surface is the reason for the out-of-control behavior.  At North Rim we get to the root problem.

“The troubled teen we serve is emotionally immature and in self-destruction mode.  These young men/women are ungrateful, selfish, self-absorbed, and self-centered.  Additionally, these kids live in a fantasy-based world (void of responsibility, accountability, and consequences), living for the moment, unwilling to invest into their future.”  Robert Nording, Executive Director

The perfect candidate for North Rim Leadership Academy is a very smart child who has become a major manipulator; a natural born leader who is not living up to his/her potential.  These young people only care about the acceptance they find from their friends (who are also rebellious and emotionally immature).  These future leaders have tremendous potential, but right now they are not able to make decisions that are in their best interest.  To them, everything is about having fun and hanging out doing stupid things.  They are using the very best part of themselves (natural leadership abilities) to destroy themselves (rules don’t apply to these kids).

“These children believe that their parents are retarded, gay, and stupid.  Moreover, these kids are professional “victims”, blaming all their woes on others. Sound familiar?  If you are a parent of a “troubled teen” we are here to tell you that you are not alone.”  Brian Hogie, Program Director

teen boarding schoolIf you have taken your child to counselors, therapists, or psychiatrists and nothing seems to help, perhaps he/she is not in need of a therapeutic intervention. Use common sense! Does therapy treat kids who are selfish, self-centered, or just plain spoiled? The answer is “NO”. Therapy is reserved for those who have real mental health issues. Today’s troubled teen is usually not mentally ill; they are more likely to be “entitled” (emotionally immature). Entitled teens believe that the world revolves are them, and everyone exists to serve their needs. They believe that they deserve everything and don’t have to contribute in any way toward others. They don’t respect authority. Entitled teens blame everyone else for their own poor decisions. They act like victims and refuse to take responsibility for their bad choices. They are experts in diverting and deflecting accountability. They are also great manipulators. They don’t mind lying, or covering up for others who lie. Entitled teens feel depressed, and they should. Anyone who lives their lives in such a selfish and self-absorbed manner should feel depressed…. It is a natural emotion that self-centered people experience. It is not a mental illness.  The “entitled” teen needs a wake up call, not a therapist.

The “entitled” teen lives in a fantasy-based reality. They live for the moment, looking for the easy way out, and always expect to have fun. Entitled teens don’t consider how their actions affect others, but get extremely angry when others don’t consider their feelings. Entitled teens no longer put a value on education, trustworthiness, integrity, or hard work. Their friends have become their god. Entitled teens think that parents and other authority figures are stupid, weird and out-of-touch.

Let the professionals at North Rim provide you with a thorough assessment of your child, and help you better understand how to best serve your child.
